What is the BEST thing I can do to help my shooting?
Often I am asked, “What is the best thing I can do to help my shooting?”, and no matter how many times I am asked the answer will always be the same. Take shooting lessons. Now, I am aware that many of you would consider my stance on this subject as bias considering I give many lessons, and I am also aware of the position I hold in this question. However, there was once a time where I was the one asking that very same question. It took some convincing and reassuring even to convince me around the time I would ask this question, (before I had taken a lesson) that getting help would be the best way to help my shooting. It only took one trip to a professional instructor to clearly show how true this statement was. Many times ive heard experienced shooters, or someone who has simply just been in the game a long time say “I wish I would have taken lessons, it would have been much cheaper.” There is so much truth to this statement. Most shooters that haven’t taken lessons end up spending more money and time over the years trying to find “gimmicks” or pointless practice to enhance their shooting when they are honestly doing nothing but developing bad habits and practicing the incorrect methods. The statement of “doing it right the first time pays off” applies to this scenario. I hope you take this tip and aren’t the one left saying “I wish I had just taken lessons”.
